Scoil Phádraig, has a very active gardening club led by Orla. Our gardening club offers a wonderful hands-on opportunity for pupils to explore the school environment and take their learning outdoors. Through planting, watering, composting and observing seasonal changes, our pupils connect with the natural world in all its beauty and diversity, they wonder and marvel at how the tiny seeds and bulbs they plant and care for, grow into beautiful flowers and healthy vegetables.
Our school garden offers the opportunity for first-hand studies of mini-beasts in their natural habitat, to learn about insects and their importance in the development and pollination of plants and vegetables. Pupils enjoy watching little insects as they make our wood pile their home, and they delight in colourful butterflies that hover and flit over our wild flower patch.
Composting, reusing rainwater from our water butt, and recycling activities, teach our pupils about conservation, sustainability, biodiversity and environmental awareness. through gardening our pupils learn patience, focus, teamwork, communication and responsibility. Best of all they get the opportunity to be getting their hands messy!!
